Keep Station 5 Open

Chief Cammack proposed an alternative budget at the Bangor City Budget Committee meeting last night that would keep Station 5 open. According to the BangorDailyNews article, the budget included additional funding through the Federal SAFER grant and cuts in overtime by $50,000. Station 5 would remain open and staffing would remain at current levels.

All Hands Fire, 67 Poplar St.

Station 6 and Central units were dispatched to a residential building fire, reports of smoke coming from the building. Engine 6 first in reported a two story building with smoke showing. Engine crews knocked down the fire on the first and second floor.

All Hands, 34 Spring St. Apt Fire

At 04:46 A.M. Central and Station 6 responded to a report of smoke by a tenant of the apartment building at 34 Spring St. Engine 1, first arriving engine, reported smoke conditions visible from the street. Upon further investigation fire crews quickly located the kitchen fire in a wall and searched the entire building for victims. Combined efforts from all of the stations and assistance from Brewer limited damage to the building and the occupants belongings. Any delay in teamwork or execution by A-crew could have been catastrophic for this older building. The professional firefighter and leadership once again, gets the the job done.

36 Essex St. 1st Alarm Fire

Central and Station 5 were dispatched to 36 Essex St. for a report of smoke detector activation and smell of smoke from the first floor apartment. First in Engine Co. reported no smoke conditions visible from the outside of the building, no visible fire. Shortly after entering the building the, Engine 1 had smoke and fire conditions in the building, lines were pulled and fire operations began. The Assistant Chief assumed command, the Engine Co. quickly knocked the fire down, search and rescue efforts cleared the building.

Once again the Professional Firefighters of Bangor knocked down a fire and kept the damage limited. Saving the building or saving lives, just another day on the job.

92 Second St. Working Fire, Dog Rescued

Central (Engine 1, Ladder 1, Fire Command 1, Rescue 1) and Station 5 (Engine 5, Rescue 5) responded to 92 Second St. for a building fire. Engine 1 reported a working fire on arrival, Ladder 1 ranking officer assumed command, reporting fire in rear of a 2 ½ story building, crews entering building. Engine 1 Co. worked to attack the fire in the first floor calling for additional lines to the second floor.

Assistant Chief on scene assumed command, striking an “All Hands”, all companies were working and additional city resources would continue to the scene. With the “All Hands” companies from Brewer would work across the river to cover Bangor.

No injuries were reported and fire companies rescued a canine from the building during search ops. State Fire Marshals are assisting Bangor Fire investigators for a cause.

Walter St., Fire and Injuries

Just before 05:00AM this morning, Central units with Station 5 signed enroute to a building fire at 103 Walter St. First in Engine 1, reported fire showing on the second floor, front window. With one burn victim quickly transported, all companies working, Assist Chief on scene assumed command and upgraded the incident to an “All Hands”. This sent Station 6 directly to the scene and brought in additional assistance from surrounding communities to cover the city.

State St. Family Dollar Store Electrical Fire

1st Alarm, Station 5 and Central units dispatched to electrical fire in the Family Dollar Store on State St. A delivery truck backed into the electrical service to the building.

IAFF Local 772, Toys for Tots

On Monday, December 14th, Bangor Professional Firefighters Local 772 purchased toys for children, ages 6 years old and under, at Wal-Mart in Brewer. The Bangor Local 772, of International Association of Firefighters, thanks all the citizens who donated to our local fundraisers including the Firefighters VS Red Sox Charity Baseball Game.

The firefighters and volunteers were able to purchase just over $2100.00 worth of toys for local children in need. This is something that all of us believe in and the brothers that work hard on this deserve an extra thank you from us all.

We would also like to thank the City of Bangor Fire Department, for use of the Heavy Rescue for the fund raising and charity events.

Dive Team Mutual Aid to Orono

The Bangor Fire Department Dive Team responded to Orono around 8:22am for mutual aid with Heavy Rescue 1. Orono Fire Department requested Bangor’s assistance for a vehicle in the water. Rescue divers made entry into the water then remained to assist with removal of the vehicle. The incident is currently under investigation by Orono authorities.

Fatal crash, 40 High St.

Engine 1 and Rescue 1 responded to 40 High St. for a report of a MVA involving a structure. On scene Incident Command requested additional units. The Assist Chief in Fire Command 1 and Heavy Rescue 1 were assigned to the MVA. Rescue 1 transported one to the local trauma center after extrication. The second occupant was pronounced at the scene.

Witnesses stated the vehicle was traveling at or between 70-90mph prior to hitting the exterior of the structure. Fire crews reported damage to the buildings foundation and structure. City engineering was brought in to assess the damage and integrity of the building.

Later Engine 1 crew returned to the scene and assisted the police with removal of the vehical.
